New Rochelle Back on Track, Blanks Mahopac

MAHOPAC, N.Y. – It took just five days of head shaking after losing last Saturday for the New Rochelle football team to get back to its winning ways with a 24-0 shutout at Mahopac Thursday.

“It was a great team win,” New Rochelle receiver Andrew DiRienzo said. “We really came together to bounce back after last week’s lost. We had a really good week of practice and just left it all on the field.”

New Rochelle quarterback Khalil Edney and running backs Jonathan Forrest and Kemet McLean each scored on running plays in the second quarter to open a 21-0 lead en route to the win.

Huguenots’ placekicker Kevin Lynch made three point-after-touchdown kicks and added a 25-yard field goal in the third quarter.

The Huguenots (4-1), who posted their fourth shutout of the season, had not allowed a single point before last week’s 14-0 loss to John Jay and couldn’t wait to get back on the field for some satisfaction.

New Rochelle next plays visiting Scarsdale next Friday at 7:30 p.m. at McKenna Field.
