Iona Prep football stars Qaadir Sheppard and Synceir Malone gathered in the D’Urso Conference Center at the school Wednesday to sign their national letters of intent to play college ball at some of the nation’s top programs.
Sheppard, from the Bronx, is a highly recruited hybrid linebacker, who played tight end on offense, and will be attending Syracuse University in the fall. Malone, who starred on both sides of the ball, will play a combination of cornerback and wide receiver at Stony Brook next season.
A three-star recruit, 6-foot-3, 220-pound Sheppard was named to the first-team New York State Sportswriters Association Class AA defense after contributing a dozen sacks and five fumbles during his senior season. A two-way player, he tacked on 13 touchdowns and nearly 1,000 yards as a key weapon on offense. Sheppard was ranked as the fourth-best defensive end in the state by Rivals.com.
A less-heralded recruit than his teammate, Malone, a New Rochelle native, is a speedy corner and wideout that averaged four interceptions and a sack throughout his career. He committed to the Seawolves in October.
