Former Iona Star To Play In NBA Summer League

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Former Iona College basketball star Scott Machado has reached an agreement with the Houston Rockets to play for the team in the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas starting on Friday.

The 6-foot-1 guard was not selected during the NBA Draft in June, but he garnered interest from several NBA teams before landing with the Rockets. Houston’s roster for this year’s Summer League includes 16 potential NBA players, including 10 rookies, five sophomores and one player in his third season.

"There were other teams, but I felt like this was the best fit," Machado told SNY.tv's Adam Zagoria. "I felt like I’m going to have a good opportunity here, probably the best opportunity here."

The Rockets will play five games in the Vegas Summer League from July 13 to July 18. The first game is Friday at 6 p.m. against the Toronto Raptors at the Cox Pavilion on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus. Three of Machado’s games, including Friday’s, will air live on NBA TV. The other two will be on tape delay.

The 2012 NBA Summer League will feature 24 teams in a 60-game schedule from July 13 to July 22 at both the Thomas & Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion.

NBA TV will air all 60 games, including 39 live games. The broadcasts will also be available on digital platforms. Interested fans can sign up for Summer League Broadband here to watch the games.
