Students will pick up their report cards at the school on Monday. Those who are not graduating this year will be going to different high schools in the area come next year.
Blessed Sacrament High School was one of the New York Catholic schools that must shut its doors, the Archdiocese of New York announced in early 2013.
An announcement posted in February on the high school’s Facebook page expressed shock over news of the closing: “The announcement of our school closing after over 70 years came as a surprise to all of here at Blessed Sacrament High School. We were not even included on the at risk list that was released this fall.”
In November, the archdiocese announced that four Westchester elementary schools were at risk of shutting down. Blessed Sacrament was one of two secondary Catholic schools in New York to be closed.
Some parents fought with petitions and on Facebook to keep the school open, but were unable to save it.
