Monroe College 'Jumpstart' Lets High School Students Experience College

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A program called "Jumpstart" lets local high school juniors and seniors take college-level courses at no cost at Monroe College in New Rochelle.

Monroe College offers a 12-week college-level course program for local high school juniors and seniors at its campuses in Bronx and New Rochelle, N.Y.

Business, criminal justice and information technology are among courses int he 12-week program offered at the Bronx and New Rochelle campuses.

The classes are taught by Monroe faculty for college credit.

There are many advantages, according to a press release:

  • Students are more likely go on to college and achieve higher grade point averages once they get there.
  • Jumpstart students are conditionally pre-approved to enroll at Monroe College once they finish high school.
Students interested in the Jumpstart programs must take placement tests and meet certain eligibility requirements.
