Iona College Hosts Trustee Award Dinner

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Board of Trustees of Iona College held its 51st Annual Trustee Award Dinner on Friday at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City to honor leaders who exemplify the college’s mission of service, scholarship and value-based learning. Over 500 people attended.

New Jersey Attorney Patrick C. Dunican Jr and Rye-basd GAMCO CEO Mario J. Gabelli received the 2013 Legacy Awards. Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) received the Inaugural Blessed Edmund Rice Humanitarian Award. Andrea Canning of NBC News was Master of Ceremonies for the event.

Highlights included video messages from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Speaker of the New York City Council Christine C. Quinn, former NYC Police Commissioner Robert J. McGuire and former Con Edison CEO Eugene R. McGrath.

Dunican earned his bachelor of arts degree from Iona College in 1988. In 2004, at the age of 36, he was elected Managing Director of Gibbons P.C., a 230-lawyer, full-service firm with offices in Newark and Trenton, NJ, New York City, Philadelphia, and Wilmington, Del. He is a nationally recognized law firm leader who was highlighted in 2010 by Law360 as one of the nation’s most innovative managing partners.

Dunican has been named for three consecutive years to NJBIZ Magazine’s “Power 100” list of the 100 most powerful people in New Jersey business. He is the Secretary of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, a founding member of the Irish American Bar Association of New Jersey and is on the Board of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and the President’s Council of Valley Hospital Foundation.

Gabelli is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of GAMCO Investors, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange listed company headquartered in Rye that is a widely recognized provider of investment advice to alternative investments, mutual funds, and institutional and private wealth management. He founded the firm in 1977 as an institutional broker-dealer. It has since grown into the diversified financial services corporation it is today.

Raymond W. Kelly was appointed police commissioner of the City of New York by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in January 2002, making Commissioner Kelly the first person to hold the post for a two, separate tenures. He also served as police commissioner under Mayor David N. Dinkins from 1992 to 1994.
