Shortly before 1 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired in front of New Rochelle Day Nursery on Clinton Avenue, after two SUVs pulled up on one another and one of the passengers pulled a gun and began shooting at the other truck.

Both vehicles quickly sped off, and the New Rochelle Police Department put out a hotline message to nearby and county law enforcement, alerting that two cars were being sought in connection to the shooting.

One person was injured in the shooting, and he was treated at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital with bullet wounds in his shoulder and arm.

According to Westchester County Police Spokesperson Kieran O’Leary, “a short time later, Sgt. Steven Stromberg of the Westchester County Police observed a black BMW SUV fitting the description of one of the suspect vehicles on the southbound Saw Mill River Parkway at 12:53 p.m.”

Stromberg followed the BMW off the parkway and onto McLean Avenue, where he attempted to pull the vehicle over. A chase quickly ensued, when the passenger, carrying a backpack, leapt from the vehicle and fled on food. The suspect was tracked to a private property off Coyle Place in Yonkers, where he was detained at gunpoint.

During a search of the suspect, a revolver was found in the backpack he was carrying. The unidentified suspect is currently at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla after he sustained a leg injury while fleeing. According to O’Leary, he will be charged by county police of a felony count of criminal possession of a weapon.
