According to police, over the weekend, rumors spread regarding reported I.C.E. agents that were arresting numerous New Rochelle residents in the west end of the city. On Monday, the department issued a statement, assuring the community that those raids never took place.
An investigation by police revealed that there were no arrests made, the department said, noting that similar rumors have spread throughout Westchester County, which have all also been proven false.
Police cautioned residents to be aware of I.C.E. agent impersonators who threaten to deport or arrest people if they are not paid money. There have been no such incidents reported in New Rochelle, according to the department, and no agent will ever demand money during an exchange.
Any resident that encounters a potential imposter can contact the New Rochelle Police Department at (914) 654-2300 if verification is required.
