WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A New Rochelle woman is facing life in prison after being indicted on murder charges alleging she killed her boyfriend.

On Tuesday, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino announced that Jonitha Alston, 30, was arraigned on an indictment charging her with individual counts of second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the death of her 60-year-old boyfriend.

According to Scarpino, shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 29 last year, Alston went to her neighbor’s home with her 5-year-old daughter, asking to call 911. Upon arrival, both were taken to New Rochelle Police Headquarters, where she complained that she was suffering from an anxiety attack and required medical attention.

At the same time Alston was calling authorities, New Rochelle police received multiple reports of a man that suffered several stab wounds to his chest on Winthrop Avenue, Scarpino said. First responders found the man sitting in a chair on the curb with multiple stab wounds to his torso outside of his apartment building. He was transported to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, where he died from his injuries the following day.

The subsequent autopsy from the Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim had been stabbed seven times, according to Scarpino. An investigation by the New Rochelle Police Department determined that Alston stabbed the man while they were in an apartment they shared. Scarpino noted that at the time of the incident, Alston’s daughter was in the room.

Alston pleaded not guilty to the charges. She remains remanded to the Westchester County Jail. She is due back in court on Wednesday, March 22, where she will be facing 25 years to life in state prison.
