NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A pair of New Rochelle parents are swapping pens for bats and office chairs for bleachers after leaving affluent positions on Wall Street to open their own baseball camp for kids in the city.

Kevin Plein, who worked in banking for more than 25 years, and Darin Feldman, who last served as a vice president of a fixed income brokerage firm, have decided to open A-GAME SPORTS , a sports instruction clinic for kids between the ages of 7 and 14.

After spending decades commuting to and from office jobs in Manhattan, Feldman and Plein decided to venture off on their own, while undertaking a vastly different challenge.

“We both became disenchanted with the daily grind of Wall Street, and wanted to build something where we knew that we would be making a positive impact on kids in our community, while still being able to pay our mortgages,” Feldman said.

A-GAME SPORTS will officially begin this summer, with a six-week baseball day camp – from July 7 through Aug. 15 - that will be conducted at Flowers Park in New Rochelle. There will be an open house for prospective campers and curious parents from 9 a.m. on 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, near the picnic pavilion area at Flowers Park.

Plein noted that there are plans in effect for A-GAME SPORTS to expand their operation to an indoor sports facility in the early fall. “We look forward to bringing our love and appreciation for the game of baseball to children in our area with a summer day camp that will challenge them,” he said. “The launch is just the beginning. Our ultimate goal is to offer training for kids with the opening of a full service facility in lower Westchester County later this year.”

Although both Plein and Feldman have experience coaching both together and individually, there are plans to install an experienced staff of coaches and instructors, with a ratio of approximately five campers to one counselor.

Campers of all experience and skills levels will be welcome, and A-GAME SPORTS will provide scholarship opportunities for students in need that excel in the classroom and on the field. Feldman said that soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball instruction will be stressed, but other sports will also be addressed. One thing he said that separates A-GAME SPORTS apart from similar outfits is the emphasis on strength and conditioning across the board.

“We have seen a significant void in the market for proper youth athlete strength and conditioning,” he said. “It is our belief that a properly conditioned athlete will only enhance the skills development of a young athlete, irrespective of the sport they choose.”
