Three Health Centers Honored for Community Service

Three of Westchester’s major hospitals and health centers were honored in New Rochelle Tuesday by United Hebrew of New Rochelle for exceptional service to the community. The senior-assisted living center recognized Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, Sound Shore Medical Center, and the White Plains Hospital Center during its First Annual Community Service Award in Health Care.

Burke Rehabilitation was commended with riotous applause by the audience for its help with on-site rehabilitation at the senior-assisted living center since 2006. “With the help of Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, we’ve done so much more than enhance the lives of people who came through our doors,” said Rita Mabli, president and CEO of United Hebrew of New Rochelle. Executive Director of Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, John Ryan, accepted the award on behalf of his 10-plus staff members who were present.

The Sound Shore Medical Center was acknowledged for providing geriatric care and surgery. “We share a very common purpose of taking care of the residents in our community,” said John Mamangakis, Senior Vice President of Operations at Sound Shore Medical Center.

White Plains Hospital Center was distinguished for its work with helping UHNR’s elderly residents. The award was accepted by Geri Brooks, director of senior services at the hospital. “Thank you for planting the tree for today, and providing shade for the future,” said Brooks.

“I think it’s obvious that these three agencies love what they do in every way,” said Mabli, whose husband had surgery the same morning at White Plains Hospital.

United Hebrew of New Rochelle is a non-profit senior-assisted living center that has been providing services to Westchester senior citizens since 1919.
