Taxes Are Big Issue at New Rochelle Election Forum

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Taxes proved to be the most important issue in an election forum Monday featuring New Rochelle mayoral candidates Noam Bramson and Richard St. Paul.

The event was hosted by the League of Women Voters of New Rochelle and featured the mayoral candidates and several County Legislator candidates in council chambers.

“We in New Rochelle have faced this challenge head on,” said the incumbent Bramson.

Bramson highlighted his approach to tackling the big issue of keeping taxes at the lowest possible level, including the passage of the city’s sustainability plan, “Green NR,” meant to make the city more environmentally friendly.

St. Paul said he also hoped to lower of taxes.

“I’m very proud of my work in the city to keep taxes low,” he said.

St. Paul said he has taken an “after- action” approach to see what was done, what wasn’t done and what can be done with future work, including snow removal, to improve each job the city takes on and keep costs down.

Low-cost housing living was also a big topic during the County Legislators forum between District Seven candidates Suzanna Keith and Judy Meyers, along with District 10 candidates Sheila Marcie and John Fitzpatrick. District 11 candidate James Maisano is running unopposed.
