Bell inspired the Festivus Celebration as an alternative to traditional holiday celebrations at this time of year.

Festivus was a derived holiday on the long running "Seinfeld" television series in which Stiller played the grouchy Frank Costanza, father of George Costanza.

Bell, who had planned the Wednesday night celebration at the VFW Post in Hastings, happened to meet Stiller and Amy Tuesday in a crazy coincidence when the three were dining at Harvest On Hudson in Hastings.

"I asked Jerry if he would come to our Festivus and was surprised when he said yes," Patrick Randolph Bell said. "It was just a weird coincidence. He and Amy are so gracious and kind to take the time to visit us. It was amazing."

Stiller greeted the small crowd, sat for photos, was interviewed by media and shouted, "Festivus for the rest of us!" to the delight of his fans.

"Hastings is such a cute little place," Stiller said. "I don't get up to the suburbs too much living in New York. Just being here with all these nice people is a treat.

"What do you all do when it quiets down?"
