League of Women Voters Sponsors Forums

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle is sponsoring two candidate forums as part of its nonpartisan mission to promote informed citizen participation in government.

The first will be Monday and include candidates for each of the six City Council districts throughout the city. The second forum to be held Oct. 24 and will feature candidates for mayor and the board of legislators.

Both forums begin at 6:45 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at New Rochelle City Hall, 515 North Ave.

The public is invited to bring their questions, which will be sorted and read by a League moderator from another community. The forums will be recorded for replay on Government Access Channels Cablevision 75 and Verizon 28 in the days before the election.

All candidates for all five contested council seats and two contested county seats will introduce themselves and respond to written questions from the audience.

Questions may be directed to all the candidates or individual candidates or districts.

Candidates for uncontested seats - Incumbents Albert A Tarantino (R) for City Council District 2 and James Maisano (R) for County Legislative District 11 - will be given a few minutes to make a statement at the beginning of the forum and will not be asked questions.

On Oct. 24, the debate between  Mayoral candidates, incumbent Noam Bramson (D) and challenger Richard St. Paul (R) will occur before the county legislative candidates take the stage.
