Trooper Melissa McMorris, a spokeswoman for the New York state police, said, "A tentative ID, based on items recovered at the scene indicates a 27-year-old Pomona man jumped from the southern rail on the Rockland County side of the span."
The man jumped over the railing after stopping his car in the driving lane, according to police, who have not released the name of the suspected bridge jumper.
The tentative ID was made by evidence recovered from the victim's vehicle., according to police.
However, McMorris cautioned Monday morning that the jumper's body had not been recovered from the Hudson River. Scuba divers will be searching the waters Monday, McMorris said
Both land and aviation units are involved in the search following the incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. as reported here by Daily Voice.
Emergency responders from multiple municipaltiies, including Stony Point and Thiells in Rockland, responded.
