NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. It was late and rainy but that couldnt stop fans of The Avengers from coming out to the Regal New Roc City Theater Thursday night for the midnight premiere of the Marvel Comics film. Fans traveled to New Rochelle from all over the region to see one of the most anticipated movies of the year.
Andrew Sabath traveled to Westchester all the way from his home in Maryland to see the flick. An employee of Regal, Sabath said the quality of the New Rochelle theater is unprecedented and it was the perfect setting to watch the movie hes waited decades to see.
This Regal theater is the biggest and best one we have in the United States and Ive been waiting since I was a little kid to see this movie so I decided to come up here to see it, Sabath said.
The Avengers is an action-packed movie that features a combination of super heroes Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor and others as they join forces from their solo movies to defend planet Earth from disaster. At the midnight premiere, fans waited outside in the rain hours before the show started to get a prime seat in the theater. At its longest point, the line extending past the entrance of FunFuzion Golf.
Jason Olivo and his friends traveled from Queens to see the movie in Westchester and even went to the extent of dressing up as their favorite characters from the movie. Olivo could barely contain his excitement as he waited on line.
The reviews for it so far that Ive read have been amazing, Im just expecting epicness, said Olivo, who preordered his tickets in early March.
Mike Finelli of New Rochelle said that hes waited to see this movie since 2007. Finelli admitted that his high expectations could be a little too much for the movie to live up to.
Ive waited a while to see this movie and I knew that there wasnt the slightest chance I wasnt going to see it at the midnight showing, Finelli said. So I would be pretty depressed later if it didnt live up to the hype tonight.
Sabath, a lifelong Marvel Comics fan, said he was confident the movie would be all that he expected.
They could have made this movie 10 years ago, or even earlier, and I would have went and saw it, Sabath said. But it wouldnt have the same technology and special effects that we have now to do it justice so Im glad they waited until now to release it and its going to be awesome.
