According to multiple reports, paramedics were dispatched to the park at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday after the child suffered blunt trauma from an exploding firework.
The injuries were reportedly not life-threatening. Officials noted on Wednesday that it was not a display, and fireworks are not permitted at D'Onofrio Park. He was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. His condition was not immediately available on Wednesday.
