New Rochelle's Sound Shore Medical Residency Program Names Chiefs

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Sound Shore Medical Center’s Department of Medicine has announced that Drs. Resmi Premji and Marie Lamsen are its chief residents for the 2013-14 academic year.

As chief residents, Lamsen and Premji will oversee the activities of the residents of the Internal Medicine and Transitional Training Programs. This includes planning resident schedules, in compliance with the American Board of Internal Medicine Guidelines; meeting educational goals, organizing educational conferences and actively participating in the supervision of Medical and Transitional residents in both inpatient and outpatient settings. 

In addition, they will serve as departmental representatives. Lamsen and Premji will also represent Sound Shore Medical Center at various professional organizations, including the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine.

“Our Internal Medicine Residency Program has two exceptional doctors serving as Co-chiefs for the 2013-14 academic year," Dr. Stephen Jesmajian, director of medicine, said in a statement. "Both Drs. Lamsen and Premji are well qualified to perform the duties of this important position."

Lamsen received her bachelor of science in medical technology, cum laude, from Saint Louis University in the Philippines before earning her medical degree from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine as a Nellie Kellog Van Shaick Scholar.  She graduated top in her class before her post-graduate training as a medical intern at Philippine General Hospital in Manila.

While completing her residency in Internal Medicine through the New York Medical College/ Sound Shore Medical Center, Lamsen was selected to present her research at seven scientific meetings, including the National American College of Physicians’ Abstract Competition.  She is board eligible in Internal Medicine. Premji received her medical degree from Amrita School of Medicine in Kochi, India before pursuing a research assistantship at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, where her focus was risk and medical management of cardiac inpatients. 

Premji’s post graduate training continued at New York Medical College/Sound Shore Medical Center where her ongoing interest in cardiology produced two research papers that were both published in the highly-regarded, peer-reviewed journal, "Circulation." Her research resulted in nine invitations to present at scientific meetings, including two National American College of Physicians Conferences. Premji is board eligible in Internal Medicine.
