Officials with NR Future have launched their “Campus Leader Initiative,” which seeks to unify New Rochelle’s three local colleges in an effort to both bring the schools together and help shape the future of the city for an entire generation.

Four student leaders from the College of New Rochelle, Iona College and Monroe College have been meeting with members of NR Future to help spread the news of the redevelopment process to every nearby campus.

According to one of the Monroe College Campus Leaders, students at the school “were very excited for the development and to be involved with NR Future.”

At the other two colleges, the Campus Leaders stated that they felt there were very few places for students to go in the area. They “were excited for the possibility of nightlife that will come along with the redevelopment.”

Moving forward, the Campus Leaders will be tasked with engaging local students through social media outlets. They will poll their peers regarding their hopes and desires for New Rochelle moving forward through the redevelopment process.

With the holiday season underway, the Campus Leaders will meet next in February, following winter break. Officials with NR Future expect to discuss planning events that millennials in New Rochelle would be interested in attending.

On the NR Future website, resident Michael Niedzwiecki praised officials for including some of New Rochelle’s youngest residents in the redevelopment process.

“It’s so encouraging that NR Future has included these Campus Leaders in the planning of downtown,” he wrote. “These students provide fresh ideas, which will enhance the development.”
