NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Joyce Carafa, a medical researcher formerly of New Rochelle, died on Oct. 15 following a battle with cancer. She was 59.
Born on Feb. 13, 1952 to Ernest and Isabel Monteiro Carafa, she graduated from Maria Regina High School and the College of New Rochelle. Carafa was living in Columbia, Mo. and pursuing a career in medical research. She worked at the University of Missouri until she became ill.
She is survived by her mother Isabel, her brother Ernest Carafa and his wife Bonnie, lifelong friend Shar Schafer and a niece and nephew. A memorial mass will be announced at a later date.
