The New Rochelle City Council unanimously agreed to assign Bonnie Meadow Road - where the fictitious show was set - with an honorary new name: Dick Van Dyke Show Way.
According to New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, the idea to rename the roadway came from some of its residents who were looking to celebrate the popular show that made Mary Tyler Moore famous.
After getting approval from the city’s Historic and Landmarks Review Board, the City Council made it official in a vote on Tuesday night.
Officials said that “the show brought attention to New Rochelle as the Petries lived in this city at the fictional address of 148 Bonnie Meadow Road, which was based on the home address of the show’s producer, Carl Reiner, at 48 Bonnie Meadow Road.
“Given the Dick Van Dyke Show’s reflections of and impact on American culture, it is fitting that an honorary street name be given to Bonnie Meadow Road.”
