NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Council on the Arts celebrates its 40th anniversary with a "Happy Birthday to Us!" exhibit and a showcase and artists reception.

The exhibit will be on display from Tuesday, March 3, through Friday, March 27. An artists reception will take place on Sunday, March 8, at 5 p.m. after the showcase at 3 p.m. in the library's Ossie Davis Theater.

The exhibit, “Happy Birthday to Us!,” pairs a photo-montage retrospective of NRCA’s past productions, created by artist Charles Fazzino, with works created by NRCA member artists that are “inspired” by other historical artists, arts movements and/or incidents in their lives that motivate them to create art in their chosen medium.

This year’s showcase performance, “Through The Decades,” will feature music from each decade of the council’s existence, from the 1970s to the present.

“Happy Birthday to Us!” was curated by NRCA members Michael Dandry and former President Judith Weber with assistance from Joe Dolice, Susan Nagib and Charles Fazzino.

Weber added a special thank-you to NRCA board member Laura Falb, who collected 40 years of NRCA memorabilia, and to Barbara Davis, community relations director at the library, for maintaining and cataloging relevant materials.

“I think we’ve all been inspired by the limitless creativity of former NRCA program director Thea Eichler and the founding members,” said Theresa Kump Leghorn, current NRCA president.

“New Rochelle has always nurtured the arts, and that is the common thread that binds Norman Rockwell, Frederic Remington, E.L. Doctorow, Charles Fazzino, Allan Menken, Frances Sternhagen, David Tobey, Carlotta Santana, the Hudson Park Bandshell, Jesse Sanchez, Tony Vaccaro, Arthur Rubenstien, Arturo Toscanini and even Mighty Mouse, all of whom have been featured in first-rate NRCA productions and exhibitions over the last 40 years.”

The NRCA website, www.newrochellearts.org, has become major resource for artists and art lovers. Membership in NRCA is open to artists and nonartists alike, with members receiving special discounts and invitations to networking events and studio tours.
