On Tuesday, the New Rochelle Police Department joined thousands of municipalities across the country to celebrate the 33rd annual National Night Out, a nationwide program designed to bring the community together and strengthen ties between the police and the citizens they are tasked with protecting.

Outside of his wife’s Refuge of Hope Church - a 107-year-old structure he spent more than $3 million renovating two years ago - Rivera posed for photos with fans, spoke with local police and impressed the importance of police-public relations and eliminating youth violence upon those in attendance.

Rivera wasn’t the only highlight on Tuesday, with police hosting open house tours of the department, boat tours at Hudson Park with the Harbor Unit, visits from the K-9 Unit and several other attractions and safety demonstrations. This year also included a bicycle rodeo and live DJ providing music throughout the day.

“National Night Out is a great way to highlight our community partnerships, and strengthen our neighborhood connections,” Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll said. “Thanks to our generous sponsors, this (was) one the best one yet.”
