Roscoe’s Room at Alvin and Friends makes its debut Friday.
Roscoe’s Room will host "Grown Folks Friday," a coat drive and dance party hosted by New Rochelle resident Debbie Lorenzo, on Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The evening will feature old school and current R&B and hip hop music, complimentary Jim Beam cocktails from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m, a cash bar and a special midnight brunch menu.
The cost of admittance is a gently used coat appropriate for a man, woman or child.
“We will continue to offer our regular dinner menu and live jazz in the front dining room until 11 p.m. on Friday nights, but we want to use the private dining room to provide something different for people who want to enjoy live music after dinner or a show, or a nightcap on their way home," said owner Alvin Clayton.
Clayton decided to name the late night room after his good friend, the late actor and director Roscoe Lee Browne.
Browne appeared on stage and film (most notably in the 1972 film "The Cowboys" with John Wayne) and was a frequent guest star on many television shows.
Clayton was a partner in the popular restaurant Georgia when he met Browne in Los Angeles in 1993.
“We dined together and forged a friendship that lasted till his death,” said Clayton.
"He was a big fan of my dream to open my own restaurant, and he loved the arts. So I thought it was appropriate to call our late night music venue Roscoe’s Room because this is the kind of place he’d love to be, a lively room with great music, cocktails, and an interesting crowd of people.” Clayton said.
