Pizzeria La Rosa, which had a soft launch earlier this month, officially opened as of Tuesday, Sept. 26. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 5 p.m. to 11 p.m; Sunday to 9 p.m.
According to the restaurant's website, the two owners bring more than 20 years of combined experience working in pizzerias. Matt DiGesu (Hoboken Pizza, Pizzeria Luigi, Best Pizza), in fact, hails from Eastchester while his business partner, Frank Pinello, a Culinary Institute of America (CIA) trained chef, has experience at such pizza meccas as Brooklyn's Roberta’s and Best Pizza in Williamsburg, the latter of which he owns.
If Pinello's name sounds familiar, that's because he's the host of The Pizza Show on Vice and spoke about his plans for La Rosa on the most recent episode of the show. He will be at the restaurant every day this week from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The two say they were drawn to the location by the vintage soda fountain bar and 100-year-old Petersen oven. DiGesu, a New Paltz grad, found the location in 2016 and spent the next year reviving the space.
Expect a menu of classic Neapolitan meets New York style pizzas, seasonal salads, side dishes and classic Italian desserts, all of which are made in-house with fresh ingredients.
The pizzeria is at 12 Russell Ave. For more information, call 914--633-0800 or visit www.pizzerialarosa.com.
