The crash happened in Holtsville at about 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

A 2008 Kia Sorrento was westbound on the expressway and the driver, a 40-year-old Holbrook man, attempted to merge onto the exit ramp at Exit 62 when the Kia struck a 2007 Ford Mustang, SCPD reported.

Police said the Ford then struck a 2004 Nissan Altima, and the Nissan struck a 2019 Dodge Ram.

The 18-year-old Shirley woman who was driving the Ford was hospitalized with serious injuries, SCPD said.

The three other drivers were not injured, police said.

The four vehicles were impounded for safety checks, authorities said.

Authorities asked anyone with information to call police at 631-854-8652.
