Gunshot Then Crash: 32-Year-Old Dies In Shooting, Wreck On Long Island Roadway Police are investigating after a driver died following a shooting and crash on a busy Long Island roadway. The incident happened at around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, in Shirley, near William Floyd Parkway and Rugby Drive. Suffolk County Police detectives determined that Daniel Johnston, age 32, of Shirley, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of William Floyd Parkway when he crashed into a pole and fence. The 18-year-old man was found around 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25 after Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives responded to a 911 call of a shooting at 244 Bayview Drive in Mastic Beach. An East Patchogue resident found a glass bottle on the beach at Bellport Bay which contained a note, according to the article. The note reportedly had a Dec. 1, 1972 message that it was a science experiment of students of William Floyd High School learning about Fire Island currents, said ABC 7.
