Harvard Grad Student Becomes First Active Military Member Crowned Miss America
A graduate student at Harvard has made history as the first active duty member of the military to be crowned Miss America. Madison Marsh, who is working on her master's degree in public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and currently a graduate intern with Harvard Medical School, was crowned on Sunday, Jan. 14. Nearly three-quarters of a million New Yorkers will go unrepresented in Congress for months following former Rep. George Santos’ expulsion from office. A special election to fill the 3rd District seat – representing parts of Nassau County and Queens – won't be held until Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, according to a proclamation from Gov. A New York military contractor will pay $75,000 to resolve allegations that it sold counterfeit batteries to the Department of Defense that later caused “military equipment failures.” With the payment, Industrial Equipment and Supply Company (IESC), located in Latham in Albany County, along with its principals, Mark and Sandra Nystoriak, settled allegations that the company violated the False Claims Act.
