Emergency crews were called at around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, after the single-engine Cherokee Archer landed on the eastbound right shoulder of the Southern State Parkway near exit 33 in Babylon. Transportation officials have declared a new set of closures — plus a new traffic pattern — for this parkway on Long Island. From Monday, Sept. 25 to Friday, Sept. 29, both directions of the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead will be closed from the Loop Parkway (Exit M10) and the Bay Parkway. A stretch of the Long Island Expressway is temporarily closed late Monday morning, April 11. The lanes are closed on the eastbound side at Exit 64 for a bridge inspection, Suffolk County Police said, noting motorists should use alternate routes. Police in Suffolk County were called in to investigate an “inappropriate threat (or) remark” that was made by a high school student in East Islip. Schools Superintendent John Dolan said that at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, April 15, it was reported to administrators that a student may have made the threat.
