Convicted Murderer Sentenced For Wantagh Drunk Driving Crash That Paralyzed Woman A man who spent more than two decades in prison for murder is heading back behind bars for causing a drunk driving crash on Long Island that left a woman paralyzed. Lumumba Woods, age 50, of Manhattan, was sentenced to the maximum of seven years in prison in Nassau County Court on Tuesday, Jan. 24.  It came weeks after a jury found him guilty of second-degree assault, vehicular assault, and two counts of driving while intoxicated. Freeport Man Arrested After Injuring Nassau County Officer, Police Say A 26-year-old Long Island man was charged after authorities said he injured a police officer who was trying to stop a fight. Jerry Velasquez, of Freeport, was arrested following an incident in Wantagh at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, according to the Nassau County Police Department. NCPD said officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Sunrise Highway near the intersection of Beech Street and found two men fighting.
