Neighbor Charged After Fatal House Fire In Hempstead A neighbor has been charged after a fatal house fire on Long Island. The blaze broke out around 6:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26 in Hempstead. Emergency responders raced to the scene at 103 Front St.  Upon arrival, they observed the house to be fully engulfed in flames due to a fire that started in a second-floor bedroom, Nassau County Police said.  The Hempstead Fire Department along with South Hempstead, West Hempstead, Uniondale, and Roosevelt Fire Departments responded and extinguished the flames.  A female victim was pronounced dead on scene. Southern State Parkway Five-Vehicle Crash Slows Traffic A five-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway has slowed traffic, but the highway is still passable. The crash took place around 8:56 a.m., Friday, Oct. 11, eastbound near Exit 20 in South Hempstead, said the New York State Police. Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim said there were no serious injuries.  The South Hempstead Fire Department and Nassau County Police assisted at the scene. There is no lane closure at this time, state police said.
