These Nassau County Schools Honored For Excellent Athletes, Scholars
Just 35 high schools across Long Island were given a special designation for their stellar athletes who double as stellar academics. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association, or NYSPHSAA, announced its 2022-2023 “School of Distinction” list on Thursday, July 27. Out of all 84 schools given the award, 35 were from Long Island. A female high school mathematics teacher on Long Island has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a student. Following an investigation by Suffolk County Police Special Victims Section detectives, Veronica Pezdan, age 28, of Holbrook, was pulled over and arrested on southbound William Floyd Parkway after she left Shoreham-Wading River High School at approximately 11 a.m. Monday, April 19. 19: Long Island HS Closes For 10 Days Due To Exposure
A Long Island high school will be closed for the next 10 days due to COVID-19 exposure. Due to the high number of instructional staff that were quarantined by the department of health last week, Shoreham-Wading River High School will be closed for in-person learning through Wednesday, Nov. 11, the district announced. Distance learning will be in effect for all high school students. The high school will re-open for in-person learning on Thursday, Nov. 12, the district said.

A Long Island high school transitioned to remote learning for the second straight day as more than 100 students were placed under quarantine due to newly reported positive COVID-19 cases.
