Police Officers Save Choking Newborn On Long Island Two police officers on Long Island are being praised after saving a newborn baby from choking. Emergency crews in Coram were called Monday, Jan. 23, with reports that a 1-month-old baby girl was having trouble breathing, according to Suffolk County Police. After responding to the 911 call, officer Peter Laub slapped the baby’s back while officer Patrick Hanley cleared the baby’s airway, police said. Man Threatens To Jump From Roof Of Long Island Bank A distraught man was rescued by police officers from jumping off the roof of a Long Island bank building. The incident took place around 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, when Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call of a suicidal man who was threatening to jump from the roof of the Capital One Bank, located at 356 Middle Country Road, in Coram.
