Weeks-Long Road Closures Scheduled On Parkway In Hempstead There will be lane closures on a busy Long Island roadway for several weeks as crews begin work on a repaving project. In Nassau County, the New York State Department of Transportation announced that there will be overnight closures of the northbound Meadowbrook State Parkway in the Town of Hempstead between Bay Parkway and Merrick Road (Exit M9). Malnourished Dog Found With Burn Marks In Nassau County, SPCA Says A dog that was found malnourished and with cigarette burns on Long Island is expected to survive, according to the SPCA. On Friday, Jan. 10, a white male Boxer mix was found in an open fenced yard on Princeton Street in Valley Stream. The dog was found to be extremely emaciated with several burn marks on the top of its head, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said. The person who found the dog – now named Chester – brought the animal to Central Veterinary Associates in Valley Stream, which referred the case to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Man, Woman In Custody After Police Pursuit Following String Of Burglaries A man and a woman wanted in a string of burglaries were nabbed by police following a chase throughout Suffolk County. The driver, John Miller, 43, of Brookhaven, and his passenger, Annette Bowers, 45, of Patchogue, were arrested on Monday, May 20, after police were able to stop their Mercedes-Benz van on South Main Street in Freeport, police said.
