Long Island Man Charged After Spray-Painting Nine Buildings, Police Say A Long Island man was arrested after police said he spray-painted "Defund the Police" or "Defund Suffolk PD" on nine buildings.  Thomas Rivas, age 26, of Huntington, was arrested and charged with nine counts of making graffiti, the Suffolk County Police Department announced on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Police: Long Island Motorcyclist Driving Through Red Light Killed After Crash With Uber A motorcyclist who ran a red light was killed overnight in a crash involving a Uber on Long Island, police said. It happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 in Huntington Station at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Melville Road, Suffolk County Police said. Gerson Mendez-Cruz, 20, of Greenlawn, was operating a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Jericho Turnpike when he rode through a red light at the intersection of Melville Road and collided with the Uber, police said.
