Nearly a week after fires broke out on the island of Maui, and most notably in Lahaina, Long Island residents are doing what they can to help support the thousands of people affected by the tragedy. The death toll from the fires, which broke out on Tuesday, Aug. 8 and spread quickly via the wind and extremely dry conditions, has risen to 96, making it the deadliest US wildfire in over 100 years. ID Released For 23-Year-Old Killed In Wantagh Crash Involving Impaired Driver, Police Say Police have identified a 23-year-old Long Island man killed in a crash involving an impaired driver over the weekend. The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4 in Wantagh. Matthew Smith, age 22, of Seaford was operating a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck heading eastbound on Jerusalem Avenue when it crossed over into oncoming traffic and was involved in a collision with a 2015 Chrysler sedan heading westbound on Jerusalem Avenue.
