Attempted Kidnapping: 7-Year-Old Wantagh Boy Targeted By Duo, Police Say Police are searching for a duo who seemingly attempted to kidnap a young Long Island boy in front of his home. It happened on Sunday, Oct. 8 in Wantagh, according to Nassau County Police. The boy, age 7, was standing in front of his home on Jerusalem Avenue when, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a gray Buick Enclave drove up to him, driven by a man. A woman, who was the passenger in the car, got out and walked up to the boy. She asked the 7-year-old if he would come with her, but he turned around and ran inside his house. Man Struck By Mercedes SUV Crossing Wantagh Roadway Critical A 55-year-old man struck by a Mercedes-Benz SUV crossing a Long Island roadway is in critical condition. The incident took place in Wantagh around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. According to Nassau County Police, the man was walking on Jerusalem Avenue from the south side to the north side of the roadway when he was struck by the SUV traveling eastbound in the vicinity of Hawthorne Drive West.   The man sustained head trauma and was transported by a Nassau County Ambulance to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition, police said. Matthew Smith, age 22, of Seaford was operating a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck heading eastbound on Jerusalem Avenue when it crossed over into oncoming traffic and was involved in a collision with a 2015 Chrysler sedan heading westbound on Jerusalem Avenue. A man walked into TD Bank on Wantagh Avenue in Wantagh shortly before 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, where there was a report of a suspect who walked up to a female bank teller and passed her a note demanding cash, Nassau County Police said.
