Elmont Man Sentenced For Producing, Possessing Child Pornography For Decades A former racehorse trainer from Long Island will likely spend the remainder of his life behind bars for sexually exploiting a child and possessing child pornography, officials announced. Daniel Mullan, aged 83, of Elmont, was sentenced to 30 years behind bars, which is the maximum sentence based on the criminal statutes in place at the time of Mullan’s offenses, according to the US Attorney’s Office Eastern District of New York. Subway Bread Is Not Bread, Irish Court Rules Whatever it is Subway is serving its sandwiches on, it’s not bread, according to the Supreme Court of Ireland. On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Irish Supreme Court ruled that Subway's “bread” did not meet the standard definition of the food item. Subway’s bread is too packed with sugar to be counted in the grain food group, the court ruled. This all came about because Subway wanted to take advantage of Ireland’s Value-Added Tax, which provides tax breaks on healthy foods. Former Suffolk County Police Commissioner Dies Longtime retired Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer died at his home in Northport. Dormer, 79, died on Sunday, April 21, following a three-year battle with cancer, said the Suffolk County Police Department. Dormer joined the department in July 1963 and was among the first 800 officers in the young department’s history, they said. He was promoted to sergeant in 1970, the department’s 425th member to achieve that rank. Dormer continued to rise through the ranks before retiring as chief in 1993.
