A Long Island man is facing over a decade behind bars for opening fire on several mourners at a candlelight vigil, injuring two people, and later attacking a jail guard.
Steven Reid, age 27, of Calverton, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Friday, April 19.
Prosecutors said more than 100 people were gathered at a vigil in Bellport on Thursday, July 6, 2023, to honor a community member who had died in a motorcycle crash.

A Long Island man and alleged gang member will spend at least two decades behind bars after he went after a man with a knife and shot at him down a crowded hallway, authorities said.
Hempstead resident Corey Crisp, age 44, received his sentence of 20 years to life on Wednesday, March 20 for the January 2023 incident, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.
On January 6, 2023, Crisp, who is believed to be a Bloods gang member, was at the Hempstead apartment building where his girlfriend lived, located at 600 Fulton Avenue.

A Long Island man man has pleaded guilty to murder for the shooting death of a 25-year-old during an argument.
Ryan Hamilton, age 24, of Hempstead, admitted to the murder of Trendabi Reid in May 2021, on Thursday, Feb. 15, said Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly.
Hamilton, age 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He is expected to be sentenced to 19 years to life in prison, the DA's Office said.

A wanted fugitive suspected of gunning down a Maryland judge in his own driveway has ties to New York.
Pedro Manuel Argote, age 49, is the primary suspect in the killing of Washington County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Wilkinson, who was shot multiple times outside his Hagerstown, Maryland home on Thursday night, Oct. 19.
Wilkinson was rushed to a hospital where he later died, according to Washington County Sheriff’s officials.
