Long Island Man Seriously Injured When Firework Explodes In Hand A Long Island man was seriously injured while lighting a firework. The incident happened Saturday, July 4 at 9:15 p.m.in Central Islip. Brandon James, 29, of Brookhaven, suffered the hand injury while lighting a firework at a home located on Tamarack Street, Suffolk County Police said. He was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The incident happened Saturday, July 4 at approximately 10:05 p.m.  in Port Jefferson Station. Calros Diaz,  29, was attending a family gathering in the backyard of the residence located on Robert Court when he attempted to light a mortar-style firework, Suffolk County Police said.  The device exploded, striking Diaz in the face and severely injuring one of his eyes.
