Woman Struck, Killed Crossing Busy Long Island Highway A woman was struck and killed while crossing a busy roadway on Long Island. The incident took place in Bay Shore just after midnight between 5th Avenue and Brentwood Road on Sunrise Highway (Route 27). Suffolk County Police detectives said Jennifer Bolgehn, age 37, of Glendale, Queens, was walking across Sunrise Highway when she was struck by an eastbound 2009 Nissan Rogue. Bolgehn was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.  The driver of the Nissan, a 54-year-old Shirley man, was not injured, …

Long Island Native Who Owned Sporting Goods Stores In NY Dies A former councilman of a town in Northern Westchester who owned several stores in the area has died.  Joseph Albanese, who lived in Chappaqua and raised his family there, died on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the age of 90, according to his obituary.  Born in Bay Shore, Long Island in 1932, Albanese graduated from Yale University in 1954 and was a track and field letterman. He also served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1959, and after graduating from Yale, spent two years in Yokosuka, Japan, and in the Korean War. He married his wife, Jean Warren, in 1960 and moved to Chappaqua where they …

Authorities Search For Woman Accused Of Stealing Merchandise From LI Target Authorities are asking the public for information after a woman allegedly stole merchandise worth more than $100 from a Long Island store. The woman stole the merchandise from a Target in Bay Shore at about 6 p.m. on Monday, July 26, according to Suffolk County Crime Stoppers. She fled the scene in a black Buick Envision, authorities said.  Authorities said the Target is located at 838 Sunrise Highway. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call authorities at 1-800-220-TIPS.

LI Woman Signs, Cashes $995 Check That Didn't Belong To Her, Police Say A Long Island woman was arrested by area police for allegedly signing and cashing a check for $995 that did not belong to her in Connecticut, police said. Laverne Thomas, 52, of Bay Shore, was arrested by Milford Police on Monday, Nov. 16, on an active warrant for the event which took place in Nov. 2017, said the Milford Police. Thomas is accused of fraudulently signing and cashing a check in the amount of $995 from a checking account that was not hers. She was charged with forgery and released on a promise to appear ticket.
