These Nassau County Schools Honored For Excellent Athletes, Scholars Just 35 high schools across Long Island were given a special designation for their stellar athletes who double as stellar academics. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association, or NYSPHSAA, announced its 2022-2023 “School of Distinction” list on Thursday, July 27. Out of all 84 schools given the award, 35 were from Long Island. In order to qualify, a high school must have 100 percent of its varsity teams qualify for a “Scholar-Athlete team award,” which designates that the team’s average GPA is greater than or equal to a 90. Covid-19: Long Island High School Goes Remote After New Cases A Long Island high school has switched to remote learning due to new cases of COVID-19. Babylon Junior-Senior High School has pivoted to full remote instruction for Thursday, Nov. 19, and Friday, Nov. 20.  Babylon Union Free School District Superintendent Linda Rozzi said that after two more positive cases of COVID were identified. Covid-19: New Positive Case Reported By Long Island School District A new positive case of COVID-19 has been reported at a Long Island School District. The Babylon School District was notified on Friday, Sept. 18 that an individual at Babylon Junior-Senior High School has tested positive for COVID, Superintendent Linda Rozzi said in an email to the school community.
