Police are investigating an unusual incident after a young girl was seen walking alone late at night and then entered a wooded area.
The sighting of the girl was first reported around 10:23 p.m., on Tuesday, April 13, in Roosevelt, when officers responded to a 911 call by a witness who saw the child, approximately 7 to 8 years old, walking alone through the BP gas station parking lot located at 533 Nassau Road, said the Nassau County Police.
Officers responding to the area began to conduct a canvass with the assistance of Nassau County Police K-9 Unit, Nassau County Police Aviation, and the New York State Police, which included viewing surveillance video.
An investigation at the scene revealed that the unknown girl was seen heading north on Nassau Road across the bridge over the Southern State Parkway and then entered the wooded area along the Southern State Parkway at Nassau Road, police said.
The child is described as being Black, with a thin build, wearing pink pajama pants, a white and blue horizontal striped shirt, large hoop earrings, and no shoes, police said.

All callers will remain anonymous.
