Long Island Man Drove Drunk With Teen In Front Passenger Seat, Police Say

A Long Island man was allegedly drunk and driving with a teenager in the car when he blew through a stop sign and was stopped by police overnight.

A Suffolk County Police officer on patrol at approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, stopped Selden resident Jared Banfield when he failed to stop at the intersection of Riviera Drive and Belair Road in Selden.

According to police, during the subsequent stop, it was determined that Banfield was allegedly intoxicated, and there was a 15-year-old boy in the passenger’s seat. Banfield was taken into custody and the teenager was released to the custody of his mother.

Banfield, 35, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, and endangering the welfare of a child. 

Banfield was held overnight and scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Friday, Feb. 14.
