Hate Crime: 14-Year-Old Charged After Threatening LGBTQ Students On Long Island, Police Say

A 14-year-old girl is facing a hate crime charge after investigators reported that she threatened to kill or injure students in the LGBTQ community at her Long Island high school.

The teenager, who is a student at Eastern Suffolk BOCES - Sequoya High School in Holtsville, was arrested at about 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, the Suffolk County Police Department said.

Investigators found that the teen, whose identity was not released, texted another 14-year-old student at about 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, and she threatened to kill or injure students in the LGBTQ community and every girl at the school, SCPD reported.

The teen, a resident of Medford, was arrested by Hate Crimes Unit detectives and charged with second-degree aggravated harassment as a hate crime, which is a felony, and making a threat of mass harm, a misdemeanor, police said.
