Donta Riddick, age 35, of West Babylon, was sentenced to 16-and-a-half years in prison on Tuesday, Sept. 13, for possessing and distributing heroin and fentanyl, according to Breon Peace, United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

In his guilty plea on Jan. 28, Riddick admitted to distributing the drugs on Sept. 13, 2020, that killed a Massapequa woman.

“Today’s sentencing is justice served for the trauma that the defendant directly caused to our district, including the death of his young neighbor,” Peace said. “This Office, together with our federal and local partners, works tirelessly to hold accountable those who deal deadly drugs and contribute to the opioid epidemic’s devastating impact on our communities.”

Riddick sold fentanyl-laced heroin to the victim, who died from an overdose at a Massapequa motel on the morning of Sept. 14, 2020, the US Attorney's Office said.

On Sept. 15, 2020, Riddick was arrested for possession of street-level quantities of the same drugs that caused the victim's death, Peace reported.

According to the announcement, the victim's aunt spoke at Riddick's sentencing and described the traumatic impact of losing her niece.
