A 27-foot 1989 OC/MA boat, operated by Louis Deritis, age 53, of Oakdale, collided with a 44-foot 1989 Henriques Sport Fisherman near Fire Island north of Ocean Bay Park, between North Channel and Range Channel, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, according to Suffolk County Police.

The collision caused the OC/MA boat to capsize, ejecting Deritis into the water. His body was later located by Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers and members.

His wife, Renee Deritis, age 50, a passenger on the OC/MA boat, was found in the vessel’s cabin by fire department rescue divers. Renee Deritis was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The operator of the Henriques Sport Fisherman, Ferdinand Caravousanos, 6age 1, of West Babylon, and his passengers were not injured.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
