The Public Information Office reported that the Bureau of Special Operations Officers received a call about a vehicle hitting the window of a 7-Eleven storefront in Farmingdale, 150 Main St., at around 5:15 p.m. Friday, May 10.
The vehicle's driver fled the scene, driving a red Toyota 4Runner. The police arrived shortly after the driver had left the scene.
After a short time, the same Toyota 4Runner was involved in a collision with a 2017 Grey Subaru Sedan operated by a 46-year-old woman at the intersection of Conklin Ave and Main Street in Farmingdale.
The officers on the scene observed a red 2000 Toyota 4Runner that matched the description of the vehicle that left the scene and conducted a stop on Hicksville Road near the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike.
The investigation revealed the driver, Andrew Malitzis, age 61, of Old Bethpage, had watery eyes, an odor of alcohol emanating from his breath, and was unsteady on his feet, according to Nassau County Police.
The driver's results on the Standardized Field Sobriety Test were positive, and he threatened the lives of the officers at the scene before being placed under arrest, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Malitzis has been charged with:
- Two counts of driving while intoxicated,
- Driving while ability impaired,
- Criminal mischief,
- Menacing,
- Making a terroristic threat,
- Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
He was scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday, May 11 at First District Court in Hempstead.
