With a rise in COVID-19 cases expected to continue during the holiday season, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced major new measures to address a winter surge. Masks will be required to be worn in all indoor public places unless businesses or venues implement a vaccine requirement, Hochul said. The new business and venue requirements extend to both patrons and staff. Broadway lovers anxious to see the bright lights flick back to life will need to have a COVID-19 vaccine and mask in order to attend any show. The Broadway League announced Friday, July 30, that the owners and operators of all 41 Broadway theatres in New York City will require vaccinations for audience members, as well as performers, backstage crew, and theatre staff, for all performances through October. The United States Postal Inspection Service is warning consumers to be wary of opportunistic fraudsters looking to take advantage of fear-mongering during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. Coronavirus Update: New York Looking To Test Up To 1,000 Per Day Statewide
The New York State Department of Health is partnering with hospitals in an effort to conduct upwards of 1,000 tests for coronavirus per day across the state. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the Wadsworth Center is teaming with local hospitals to expand surge testing capacity to 1,000 tests per day statewide for the novel coronavirus.
