Several fire departments had to race to an old hospital property in Westchester after a debris pile near a 12-story vacant building went up in flames. The incident happened on Tuesday, Nov. 7 around 3:30 p.m., when firefighters responded to the old United Hospital property in Port Chester in the area of Boston Post Road and High Street, where a debris pile behind a 12-story vacant residential building had ignited. Flames At College In Westchester Blamed On Trash Compactor, Firefighters Say
A fire at a college in Westchester County was the result of a trash compactor going up in flames, firefighters said. On Tuesday, Jan. 3 around 2:40 p.m., firefighters were sent to SUNY Purchase College to respond to a reported transformer fire, according to the Purchase Fire Department. Once there, firefighters saw that the trash compactor at the north loading dock was on fire, and quickly began working to put it out. Trapped Driver Rescued From Car After Accident In Westchester County
One person is injured after they became trapped in their car following an accident in Westchester County, requiring them to be rescued. The accident happened on Tuesday, Dec. 27 around 8:45 p.m., in Harrison in the area of White Plains Avenue and High Street, according to the West Harrison Fire Department. Upon arriving, firefighters realized the driver was trapped in their car which was lying on its side and needed to be extricated. Volunteer Fireman In Westchester Dies At Age 36
A volunteer firefighter from Westchester County has died at the age of 36. Christopher Colasacco died on Wednesday, Jan. 19, according to his obituary. He was a graduate of Harrison High School and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Harrison. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Harrison Fire Department, the Valhalla Fire Department and the West Harrison Fire Department, his obituary reads. Crews Respond To Fire At Elementary School Kitchen In Westchester
.Fire crews responded to the Purchase Elementary School on Wednesday morning when a fire broke out in one of the building’s commercial refrigerators. Engines from the Purchase, Port Chester and West Harrison Fire Departments were dispatched to the school early on Wednesday, March 6, where there was a report of a heavy smoke condition in the kitchen area. One Extricated In Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer On I-684
One person was extricated from a van following a two-vehicle crash that also involved a tractor-trailer on I-684. The crash took place Monday morning, Jan. 21 northbound near I-287 in Purchase, said officials with the Purchase Fire Department. Personnel from Purchase, along with the West Harrison Fire Department, Harrison EMS were dispatched to scene were they extricated the trapped person, the department said. The injured individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
